WHO
Topics: International protocols to organ transplant; Humanitarian crisis in Syria (2012)
Guest speaker for Saturday, 1st Dec. am: TBC
Chairs: Jessica Loo and Joshua Benn
Jessica Loo
Hi Delegates! I am Jessica, a second year economics student at the University College London. I am originally from Singapore, a small but bustling country in Southeast Asia. Being in London has exposed me to many opportunities such as volunteering and participating in conferences such as MUN to understand more about global affairs and international relations.
I am honored and delighted to be your chair for the World Health Organization at this year’s London MetiMUN. Having been in the committee as a delegate last year, I was thankful for the opportunity to share my thoughts about global health matters and being exposed to the viewpoints of the other delegates. As such, I developed an interest in the global health trends and policy-options offered. I strongly suggest that all delegates focus on the international protocols to organ transplant and keep yourselves updated on the humanitarian crisis in Syria to allow for a more engaging debate.
I believe that there is much more that can be done to alleviate the global health issues and I am definitely looking forward to an intriguing and exciting debate regarding the issues. See you all in London and I am certain you will have a fruitful experience!
Joshua Benn
A second year student at Queen Mary (University of London), Joshua is studying International Relations with a keen interest in the Middle East and Latin America. From a military family Joshua spent most of his childhood moving around the country as well as further afield including Italy and the Falkland Islands. This military background has also given Joshua the chance to travel to the Middle East and see the effects of democratization first hand which has furthered his interest in this area.
“The Syrain uprising is of paramount importance for the stability of both the region and the existing world order. Indeed it seems that the Syrian case has become a sticking point for Neo-Liberal polices often adopted by the West regarding humanitarian intervention and aid. It is vital that the global community finds a way, as with Oman in the 1980s and more recently in Libya, of ensuring peace and security for the people of Syria”.
Relatively new to Model United Nations Joshua’s background is largely in parliamentary style debating and took to MUN at university. This experience proved incredibly useful and Joshua took part in both Oxford and Metropolitan (London) conferences last year. This was in addition to directing at both the North London Schools International and the Mulberry Girls International that was held at the United Nations Head-Quarters of the International Marritime Organisation (IMO) in London. Joshua is now Internal Conference Manager for Queen Mary’s conference in December. Joshua looks forward to an exciting and topical WHO committee at Metropolitan this year and wishes all the delegates the best of luck!

Guest Speaker: Dr. Neil Thurman, Programme Director Erasmus Mundus Master's: Journalism and Media, City University, London
Chairs: Sabina Stefana and Basem Zaman
Sabina Stefana
Hey everyone! My name is Sabina Spataru, I am 19 years old and I am from Romania, I came to London right after I finished high school. I am studying International Relations and Politics, first year, at London Metropolitan University. I’m very honoured to be presenting myself as Assistant Chair in the ECOSOC. I’ve always been interested in being involved in as many activities as I could, especially in political debates. I’m relatively new to MetiMUN, however I’m looking forward to be a part of this great opportunity.
Even if this is my first experience in MetiMUN, I hope I will not only receive great information and knowledge in such organizations, but also I will try to be as helpful as I can. I am sure I will not regret being a part of this and I hope that none of you will do. Looking forward to see you all soon
Basem Zaman
Hi, My name is Basem Zaman and I will be one of your Chairs for ECOSO!
I am a Mechanical Engineer currently on industrial placement with e.on. No I don’t come round to people’s houses to check their meters. I am also a student at Queen Mary University of London. I am currently the president of Engineers without borders at QMUL so I have a deep vested interest in the media. Frankly speaking I am here to learn from you as much as I can and I am positive that you have lots to teach me. I have done several simulations and have about 3years of intense hard-core MUN experience. I simply can’t wait to meet you all and without a doubt this will be a debate to remember.

UN Security Council
Topics: The legitimacy of the claims made by Japan on islands off the coast of China; Legalisation of drugs as a way to control consumption
Guest Speaker for Sat. 1st Dec, am: TBC
Chairs: Morten Jespersen and Wilf Mountfield
Morten Jespersen
Honourable Delegates,
As your Chair, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the Security Council of MetiMUN.
Since I was first introduced to the world of MUN in Costa Rica almost 5 years ago now, I have always found the Security Council to be a particularly fascinating body of the United Nations. With a huge power and very few members discussions tend to be among the most heated but also most interesting of any UN council.
I very much hope that you will enjoy the conference and our committee sessions to the fullest.
All the best!
Wilf Mountfield
My name is Wilf Mountfield and it is my honour to serve you as one of the Security Council chairs at this MUN conference. Currently I'm studying International Relations at Queen Mary University of London and look forward to a fantastic year.
I have been doing MUN for 7 years now and this marks my 42nd conference in total. Whether it was in high school or at university, MUN has continued to offer an incredible opportunity for people of our age to interact with international issues on a global stage exploring both the finer points and the larger concepts at play in the international arena.
In addition to a wealth of knowledge, it has given me a large network of friends across the world and has truly shaped my outlook over the past few years. MUN is a truly amazing experience and I hope this conference both lives up to and surpasses your expectations. I look forward to seeing the delegates in action and co-chairing what I'm sure will be a fantastic committee.
See you all very soon!
