Thank you everyone for attending METiMUN 2012!
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to next year's edition as well!
Confessions of a Model UN Secretary General
So again it has come that time of the year in which our society holds its own MUN conference. After eight months of work, a week before everything seemed to go wrong but we managed to fix it and despite the endless obstacles that kept appearing, we managed to overcome them all and the conference was a success.
We had an exciting weekend with four committees and eight topics of discussion which included alien invasion at the birth of new countries from the combination of two, such as Peruba, at the WHO, to the chachacha dancing hippopotamus Esmeralda to be appointed of symbol of money laundering fight at ECOSOC, while at the HRC they were discussing women quotas with only one male delegate with a some times quite capitalistic Cuba, and a quite extremist Guatemala. Finally at the UNSC, we heard quite “interesting” statements in drug legalization, specially from Colombia, and on the Japan/China topic, member states agree to disagree and spend the last half an hour proposing motions all of which failed.
On the logistics side there were facts worth mention as well, the secretariat office being at the other side of the building (which in that building almost means the end of the World), the placards were printed both sides so half delegates didn’t have placards at the beginning of the conference, and the food arriving always late.
To sum up, although everything seemed to be against, we have a weekend of debate, social activities and which left lots of good moments as well as new friends.
Thank you to Plamena, Naushad and Marco without whom it would have been impossible to make!
